economic downturn calls for destressing
i read an article today that struck me as odd yet encouraging. as a massage therapist myself, i worry a bit about the state of business for those of us offering “luxury” services when the average american begins to wonder if he should start clipping coupons for his milk.
but what i read about a survey taken for associated bodywork and massage professionals (abmp) confirmed that the public opinion does value their health even in times of penny pinching.
according to this study, 42% of professional massage therapists expect their businesses to continue to grow over the next year. obviously the fault in this study is that they are asking the massage therapists and not the clients. it seems also that the study’s focus is not on the effect of the economy on the industry, but rather the vision of the industry by those already in it.
so, i am here to say, to mr. coupon clipper, there is no better time to seek balance and relaxation in your life. receiving regular massage treatments will lower your blood pressure, it will help your weight loss plan, it will stimulate you to make more productive use of your time. what you spend on an hour massage every week or so, is more than made up for in medical savings alone, and then take into consideration how much better you feel, how rejuvenated you are, and how much more you can get done because your focus and well-being and taken care of.
