delightful alternative to fried chips
here we are again. headed to the annual fourth of july bbq loaded with burgers and hot dogs and all sorts of chips and dips.
i am not a hardcore dieter. but when i find an easy way to cut a few calories here and there without sacrificing taste (and often having more fun), i’m willing to make a little jump at the opportunity.
so here it is. my recipe for home-baked super low fat cinnamon sugar chips:
what you will need:
white corn tortillas (one tortilla makes 8 small chips)
cooking oil spray (i use smart balance- no hydrogenated oils for me!)
cinnamon sugar (you can buy it ready made or make your own…i do 1 part cinnamon to 1.5 parts sugar approx….not as sweet that way, but has a subtle zing)
preheat your oven to 350°
spray cookie sheets with oil
lightly spray both sides of tortillas with oil
cut tortillas into 8 pieces and place on cookie sheets
sprinkle cinnamon sugar on top
bake for 10 minutes before checking, rotate sheets and bake for another couple of minutes
chips should be light brown around the edges and curling upward. it might take a few batches to perfect the timing.
try pairing them with a yogurt/honey dip or eat them alone. they have always been a hit for me!
