health is what you've got
the most important thing to maintain is your health. if you haven’t got that, you haven’t got anything.
with food prices and gases prices rising astronomically, that’s a tough mentality to maintain. it’s easy to stop at the drive-thru at McDonalds on your way home from work. it’s cheap, it’s on your way, it’s fast. but what are you doing to your body in the long run?
what seems like a minor inconvenience now (taking the time to buy good food at the gorcery store and cook it), will save you a major inconvenience later (and probably extend your life some).
i am not a chef. i make simple meals. but making small changes like switching to whole grain pasta, adding more vegetables (try whole grain penne with broccoli), and using a tomato based sauce instead of a cream sauce, will do wonders in the long run.
even making your own burgers! buy extra lean meat, some tasty seasoning (i personally like teriyaki turkey burgers), grill them up, add some grilled onions on a honey wheat bun and you have quite the meal! and that really doesn’t take so long.
for those of you who don’t have the time to cook there’s a quickly growing personal chef service called dining in. currently it only serves the bay area, but this trend will likely take off. if not dining in, there will be something similar in la soon!
